Flax seed is excellent for heart patients. It helps clean the arteries.

Thanks Jinne! Question... how would you make it have chunks? One of my kids likes the big clumps of granola more than the loose pieces... how do you get clumps?? 😊

Looks really good! I haven’t made granola in a long time, though I used to make it all the time from the Tightwad Gazette recipe. Need to buy some flax seed and get busy! I’ve got dried blueberries from Costco that will be perfect for this. Or craisins with walnuts, or apple pecan, or banana chips with some peanut butter powder, or freeze dried strawberries with macadamia nuts…

I always used to make a huge batch of granola when we went in vacation. It filled a 17-cup container!😂 My children loved it, but I didn't make it often.

Could we just use maple syrup and leave out the brown sugar? You may have said and I may have missed it

Thought I’d type this for you…

Cherry Almond Granola

Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees

1 cup dried cherries or dried fruit of your choosing such as raisins
Set aside for later

Dry Ingredients: place in a large mixing bowl

4 cups oats
1/2 cup flax seeds, or chia seeds, sun flower seeds or hemp seeds or a mixture of seeds
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups sliced almonds
1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix well.

Wet Ingredients:

1/2 cup maple syrup
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup olive oil

Mix well

Pour wet ingredients over dry ingredients, mixing well. It is best to pour a small amount of wet ingredients over the dry ingredients at a time stirring well with each pour.

Place on a large lined baking sheet, spreading into a thin layer.

Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes to 1 hour until desired browning stirring every 15 minutes.

Let cool to room temperature for about 1 hour. Add cherries, or other dried fruit of your choice.

Store in an airtight container.
