not the flux, it's only practiced at the YouTube university. If you have good multicore solder you don't need extra flux it just makes a mess. You should use flux when removing components as the flux in the old joint will have burnt off during soldering or removed during cleaning.
In all my years in the electronics sector I've never added flux to multicore solder during soldering. OK a little added when removing component's when making a repair.

Another great repair video, the drill collection is now n÷1 😂😅

Imho flux is added due to cheap solcer or to help with not having practiced much soldering in the past.
