Optimal red blood cell matching strategies

Показать описание
With the arrival of affordable genotyping technology, the question arises of how to optimally match red blood cells in practice. This poses new questions like:
- To what level can we provide matched blood products to as many patients as possible without compromising the availability of blood products in general?
- How do we handle the explosion in the number of different blood products when we consider an increasing number of antigens to match?
- How do we ensure the availability of blood products for different patient groups with different needs?
In this talk a number of different approaches that have been explored in the past to derive an optimal matching strategy will be discussed, as well as an outline of the research foreseen on this topic in the coming years.
BTRU Seminar Series: January 2022
Chair: Professor Emanuele Di Angelantonio, University of Cambridge and NHSBT
