❖ Finding the Determinant of a 3 x 3 matrix ❖

Finding the Determinant of a 3 x 3 matrix. I show the basic formula and compute the determinant of a specific matrix.
Note that to find the determinant of this matrix, we break it down into finding the determinants of a 2 x 2 matrix.
There is a little 'trick' to speed up finding the determinant of a 3 x 3 matrix but the procedure shown here is the general procedure to find the determinant and is more useful.

Hi all! Please post comments, questions and anything else on your mind in the comment section! While I try to answer as many questions as I can, there are more questions than I can answer by myself so if you are someone who might be able to help, please do so! The community is so much better when everyone is involved and helping each other out. Our strength is our willingness to help each other!
Also please feel free to like or dislike the video. Your feedback is always appreciated so that hopefully I can make my future videos the best possible! Thanks and happy studies!

I just gotta say that I have been watching your videos since I started taking pre-calculus in high school... I now attend Purdue University and I'm taking Linear Algebra and still go straight to your videos the minute I don't understand something. You are seriously a life saver! And I can't thank you enough!!

You have taught me more in less than 7 minutes than my lecturer has taught me in 2 months, thank you!

you probably should also point out that any row works. Following the following:
[+ - +]
[- + - ]
[+ - +]
any row should give the same result following the sign convention above.

Thank you so much, you're a great teacher! I had a flu and missed 3 weeks of courses at my University and you made catching up on matrices much easier. Million times thanks!

This guy is the best! Back when I was learning trigonometry (now taking linear algebra), this guy made me a GOD when it came to the unit circle. Even now he's extremely helpful.

Awesome video; you are the best math teacher I have ever listened to, including those on YouTube and in school. I was about to mention the alternating positive-negative pattern, but, sure enough, you pointed it out a second time right at the end of the video, which was perfect. Thanks for the video, it really helped me out in an efficient amount of time.

my online classes description of finding the determinant of a 3x3 Matrix, was jibberish compared to this spectacle of logic you presented to me. THANK YOU.

This so easy that even a preschooler will get it. Weldon sir. You've saved me days of brain racking. I wish professor would just make life as easier as this. You've earned a subscriber

yes, i agree!
i was debating which way i would show first....
i decided on this method though cause i think it ends up being more insightful : )
however, it may also be more computationally cumbersome, but not by very much i think

Your 7 minute video explained this so much better than my tedious lecturer could in an hour. Thanks!
