I was diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 17; instead of "that time of the month" I had "that time of the year" because I only had periods once a year. The doc who made the diagnosis was very callous: he decided I needed an endometrial biopsy, and he performed it without my parents consent. He said "I'll tell you when to grit your teeth" and when he made the cut I actually passed out from the pain. As a result of that experience, I avoided pap tests for nearly 10 years. He also told me that I would never have children. While I did eventually have to have a "radical hysterectomy " , it was after I had had 8 pregnancies, 3 of which I carried to term, one at age 22, the second at 33 and the last one at 44. The other symptoms are difficult to manage at times, but I'm really happy that I was blessed with my 3 sons in spite of the "infertility " diagnosis.

What I like about doctor mike is that he is good with people, or only is he’s smart but he likes making jokes and that’s what more doctors need. I’ve had some terrible experiences with doctors

It makes me so happy to hear that you look at the chin/neck in relation to sleep apnea. When I was about 13-14 Y/O, I started having serious medical issues where I would get sick at the drop of a hat, a cold me sick for a week, constant fatigue, even after 8-9 hrs of sleep. For years, I was going to my GP, and always got the same answer; "you're fine." Blood work, xrays, specialists, "you're fine." When I was around 16, it got to the point where my dad started believing I was lying about it all to avoid school.

One day, knowing all along that I had trouble sleeping, (including severe snoring) but not able connect any dots, I found an app that was supposed to stop snoring. You'd set it on your mattress next to you at night, and it would vibrate and make a soft noise when it detected snoring. A secondary part of the app was that it recorded any noises in your room at night, supposed to be used to notice anything that might have been disrupting your sleep.

Well, after one night using the app, I woke the next morning to find a long list of recordings, and quickly discovered they were all of me, snoring like a cliche movie grandpa. It took me a day or two to connect the dots, but I finally realized that my snoring sounded just like my dad's when he fell asleep without his cpap.

To make a long story just a little shorter, I had my dad listen to the recordings and explained my thoughts and he agreed. After a sleep study (where I only got 2-3 hrs of sleep because I have trouble sleeping in new places) I got a result back of an AHI of 37.

Years of suffering and fights with doctors and eventually my own father, it took a cheap little gimmick of an app to alert me to my severe sleep apnea.

That's not really where my fight with fixing my sleep apnea ended, but I feel like I've already gone on a bit of a diatribe, so, once more, Doctor Mike, thank you!
