No we ARE NOT on the brink of nuclear war with Russia! Let me give you some insight as to why my supposition is true. First off Russia has very very few large cities, with Moscow being a true mega city with a massive population, followed by St. Petersburg. Thus, Putin will never risk having both of those great cities reduced to ashes. Secondly, NATO will respond to a nuclear attack in Eurpe, even if just Ukraine is hit. It will be automatic that the West will respond. Russia knows this and won't invite that to happen! StocktonRob

Look, warheads require a shit ton of maintenance, and that maintenance costs a shit ton of money. To put this into perspective, the US has roughly 500 less warheads than Russia atm. The US spends roughly 50 billion per year just on maintenance. This replaces tritium and electronics and oversees deactivated warheads awaiting dismantlement.

Russia's entire military budget in 2023 was 74 billion. This covers everything in their military, including nuclear warhead maintenance.

Simple fact is, they aren't spending the money to keep all their warheads active and ready for use. This puts them at a huge disadvantage if it ever came to nuclear war, guaranteeing they ultimately lose any sort of nuclear exchange.


Plus, he wouldn't be saber rattling quite so much. If you have them, you don't need to remind people you do. They already know. He's trying to hide that.

To my knowledge, the use of nuclear weapons is not Putin's decision alone, but must be a unanimous decision of his staff and weapons commanders.
