Physical Nintendo Switch games aren't always fully on the cartridge itself; that's what this video is about.

There's an active lawsuit in Europe where we try to abolish those practices
I hope the US and the rest of the world would follow

I miss the time when buying physical meant that you could play without internet.

All Switch Game Cards that claim to be multigame should be legally required to contain every game on its packaging on the Game Card itself

Change my mind

This is the true reason Tears of the Kingdom cost 70$. The cartridges were more expensive just because of the sheer amount of content in that game, edging out over 16GB of space (The standard Nintendo switch cartridge), having to use 32GB instead. While Nintendo claims it was because of development, it would make way more sence to not disclose it from being the cartriges itself.

Meanwhile Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl cheaped out on 8GB cartridges and pretty much released an alpha version that was barely functional and released a day 1 patch that cost the consumer their Switch's Memory. They don't admit to any of this, but people have done their research.

It's insane just how far these companies will go just to save on some extra money. I wish it could be like the golden days of Gaming where it was one release and that's it: Updates to the games were on re-releases with extra content tahy justifies the rerelease

and then there's the gigchads like CD Project Red whom, when they released the complete edition of The Witcher 3, actually went out of their way to buy the biggest size cart they could so the entire game including the DLC is playable off the cart

One annoying example is Ys 9. The game isn’t finished on the cartridge. To get the ending you need a download. Even more weird and annoying is games where the case has no cartridge and is just a download code. That’s just plastic waste at that point.

25gb for a game that claims to be a cartridge is crazy. Good luck on 300 subs!

“Physical means owning your media” isn’t even true anymore. This is also super common with PlayStation and Xbox games as well. Some of or most of the game isn’t even on the disc, at that point you’re just buying a physical key to download a digital game

That is a disgusting business practice

At least they aren't Cloud games, requiring you be online to play them.

Difference is u can sell the physical copies but not digital. So it gives u a sense of ownership by actually being able to sell and get money out of something u purchased vs digital where u cant sell it

This video explains exactly why I didn't buy the Spyro trilogy on Switch. I hate this practice of only having some of the game on the cartridge.

2:10 I noticed Bayonetta 2 is on there.
For that game it's not advertised to be contain multiple games like the others so it's more like you got the game that you bought, but here's a code for the first game for nostalgia, instead of "here's half the game, hope you have internet so you can actually play it <3"

Bayonetta 1 has it's own physical copy, but I'm not sure if it's actually similar to other games mentioned. I doubt it though since it wasn't on the list.

Do Switch games ever update to the cart itself, or all the update patches saved on the internal memory or SD Card?

I really hate “physical” games that download the game(s) to your console rather than start up. I understand if your game needs an update but if you don’t want the update you should be able to play it without it. I believe all consoles have that stupid problem with certain games.

This isn't just a Nintendo issue, tons of PlayStation and Xbox games do this too

Physical cartridges are very valuable to me because they can be sold and you basically get your money back. Here in Bulgaria a first party mario game costs about 55 EUR and is sold for 40 EUR. You can also buy for 40 and sell for 40 which makes the game free rental

1:39 One more thing to remember is, now you have to have the mostly empty cartridge in your system to play it, if you bought it digital you not need any cartridge swap to play the game. In addition you need to provide most space which is additional costs of a SD card.
