You have to have a barrier between your finger tips and the foil that's touching the battery. I used a thicker piece of wood between the foil and my fingers

Thank you. Never would've thought of this. Knowing various methods in case something is damaged, lost, etc.

Yeah, this isn’t working for me. I can feel the battery getting super hot, even with oven mitts, but the foil isn’t even getting warm. I have the foil in the center as thin as I can possibly cut it with scissors, but it’s not even warm. The battery is getting hot, but nothing close to start a fire. I’m not sure how that makes sense

It works took me 3 tries, the key is making the middle thin enough, and I must say rubber gloves are helpful even with gloves I felt some burning

I absolutism love this and am going to try this tonight. Cold weather froze my heel batteries, team or of propane and lighters are all dead. Wrong time for FedEx to delay my packages, huh. 😆 🤣 I'll give a shot or if it works.

So there's no risk from the 'live circuit' when using AA/AAA batteries. They are only like 1.5V - no where near enough to be dangerous. Try touching both ends of the battery with one hand, nothing happens.

You're putting yourself in more danger with that disposable plastic glove, the heat could melt the plastic onto your skin. I'd rather risk a small burn than have a plastic glove fused to my skin.

Leather/heatproof gloves would be nice, but not necessary.

If ya dont have foil and a battery i use a hand sanitizer and an empty lighter. Put the hand sanitizer on your finger tip, then light it with the empty lighter itll generate a spark large enough to light the hand sanitizer

Yes, you're touching a live circuit while doing this, but it's a 1.5V battery, there's no way that current can flow through you at that voltage, at max you can burn your finger tips while touching the hot terminals.

Is it TIN foil or ALUMINUM foil? bc tin has 1/3rd of the melting point and I keep burning my hands, this looks like it takes an instant but the middle part never melts, I make it much more thin than what you show and still nothing

Is that just kitchen foil or is it a special type/brand?

I tried using foil and a battery and it didn't work. well it started to get really hot at the points underneath where I was holding with my fingers. What did I do wrong?

What do you mean you need different widths for different batteries I thought all the batteries are 1.5V
