Been listening to Fishbone since like 86..sickest fucking band ever. Just more off the hook than Zep and Sly and Portishead..all good groups but Fishbone crushed every band. They blew open the doors even further. That 80s LA music scene. Fishbone was fitting with the oingo boingo and the ska gospel metal funk, AND AANNDD. they always had a message. Amazing Amazing group.

I remember seeing this episode when it came out and thinking that when Don Cornelius said "we'd like to have you back" he was actually thinking, "there ain't no way in hell you'll ever be back on this stage". After watching this video again (after as many years) I see I was right in thinking that. =)

i'm ashamed to admit i never checked Fishbone out before in my 50+ years, tho i'd heard of them. Then i saw the drummer from The Bobby Lees exclaim they were the best band ever, like he was daring someone to disagree. Turns out the kid is a badass drummer, so here i am, a FNM fan, going down the Fishbone rabbit hole. Think i'm gonna like it...

Fishbone played a house party at Caltech shortly after I arrived for grad school in 1985. They knocked me out: so much fun I thought they must be really huge, or on their way to dominating the airwaves. But no.

6:18 WOW As a mid 50’s white guy who has seen his share of Soul Train this is hands bone down the best performance in the show’s history. Lol those cats didn’t really know how to dance or just MOSH. I first heard this song almost 40 years ago, Fishbone’s, ha and after seeing that, Fish was just back there doing fake drum fills, my man Don Cornelius never forgot those funktified brothers. WORD

Wow. Just wow. LOVE that since they had to go along with the recorded track, they just made it a dance party with their own music. No other artist has the fun, irreverence, and pure fucking joy to pull this off the way they did.

This was the first Fishbone song I ever heard back when I was in high school and I was instantly hooked. I heard it on WHFS and went and bought Truth and Soul which was one of the first four tapes I ever bought. Then I bought their self titled six song EP with Ugly and Lyin Ass Bitch, then I got In Your Face and saw them live at Georgetown, I think in spring of 1989.

Then I got Reality of My Surroundings when I was in college, one of the most anticipated albums of my life and it was everything I was hoping for.

Of course this song also introduced me to Curtis Mayfield, who is a GIANT of the musical world. So many amazing amazing songs. Thank you Fishbone!!
