Lesson 1: Introduction to Data Types. This lecture was given at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia on 1 September 2013. In this lesson, data types are discussed, as well as methods for collecting samples from a larger population.

The textbook used for this course is: Statistical Methods for the Social Sciences (4th Edition), by Alan Agresti and Barbara Finlay, although the course can be used with any relevant textbook.

But if you take an "independent random sample", how can you just assume it representative of the population at large? Sure, it may be random, but where is the proof behind it actually being representative? We cannot just assume a sample is like the population unless we were some sort of prophets from outer space, or can we?
