Bob Dylan at Farm Aid last night, a surprise appearance, playing with The Heartbreakers. Benmont Tench — keyboard, Mike Campbell — guitar, Steve Ferrone — drums, plus guitarist Chris Holt and bassist Lance Morrison. Bob Dylan - vocals, guitar .. !

Noblesville, Indiana. Bob's first appearance at the event since the first one in 1985.

So my friend comes over with his 14 year old son, and me and my friend and his son are watching the video. My friend's son asks "Dad, who is that old man in the middle?" My friend replies: Son, that is not 'just' an old man playing a guitar....That is a man who is a Legend, who never gives up. Yes, he is old, but he is still playing, and that is a sunburst Fender Telecaster, which now that Mr. Dylan is playing it, is worth a lot of money. Bob Dylan is one of the most respected musicians and song writers that ever lived. My friend's son, took it all in, and told my friend, "Thanks dad for telling me, I'll never forget."

Physically, Dylan is frail now. Vocally, however, he is better than he has been in 30+ years. This is a beautifully judged performance. One that's so matter of fact. As if Dylan is saying to us, "There's nothing to see here. Just an old bluesman doing his thing".
