Trump really likes to model himself on William McKinley. He should take note, however that when McKinley was an Ohio congressman in 1890, his tariff plan that was enacted was very unpopular among consumers even in those days. In the late 19th century, the United States had a truly industrial economy. As a result of the tariffs, Republicans in Congress suffered significant defeats, followed by President Benjamin Harrison's 1892 defeat to Grover Cleveland (who, like Trump was elected to a second non consecutive term). The point being, in that era the tariffs enacted were very unpopular. If Trump follows through next week, I think he risks his party suffering heavily in 2026. A lot of Americans, in our modern day consumer driven economy that's been integrated with supply chains outside our borders are going to realize that Trump's promise of bringing down the price of goods is a sham.

Forget the stock market crashing, why are the food, gas and eggs price still going up? Didn't trump said it will lower from day 1?

They voted for this. You put power in a guy who is failed business man. Then you had 4 years of incompetence to refer to but you still did it

If you are upset now, just wait till you do your taxes! Also, if your health is meds dependable, check on them prices, or if your health insurance still covers the prices. Remember, don’t blame anyone else for your problems, you voted for this!
