You see I collect swords from all over the world and when the boys came by to pick up my daughter I would sit down and polish and sharpen one of my swords while I talked to them

I think the greatest thing a father can do is make his presence and energy felt without being immature or childish, landing yourself in trouble with other parents (who don't want their kids mistreated). That presence and energy, combined with the talks to be had should let potential partners know not to hurt your loved ones.
