2024 UPDATE: ServerSeeker was bought by the fifth column, meaning the new management is the same as Copenheimer. The members are... very edgy to say the least, and they see no problem with ruining the servers of people who don't know how to protect against it. These could be kids, elderly people, whatever. They think its funny, so if I were you I'd stay far away.

My husband and I have a server for us and a couple close friends, and we had someone find it recently and took all our dimonds and then blew up our houses, luckily we where online and could shut down the server before they did to much damage but we had just the night before went on a huge mining expedition and had over a stack of dimonds and with the explosions we lost most of our other loot too, it's insane how in 30 seconds one person destroyed days worth of work, we now have a whitelist, stay safe and protect your servers, I just wish I had known about this sooner.

a few corrections as someone who (used to) have access to copenheimer

copenheimer scanner cant check for anticheat / protection on servers, the whitelist detection is... spotty lol, and most of the servers u get thru the program arent the best for griefing (id have to search for quite a few minutes to find one). otherwise good video, raising awareness on how to protect servers from these kinds of attacks is great

So, first of all, no - the bot does not "leak your ip". If it leaks any IPs, its those of random Minecraft Servers. It is also not really a "new" dangerous thing since there are people who made similar bots themselves even before copenheimer, they just didn't make any information about it public.

Now some ideas to make your server more secure:
1. Whitelist your server. Use /whitelist on to enable the whitelist, and /whitelist add NAME to add a player to the whitelist. This way no unwanted can join.
2. Make backups. If you make backups, people with malicious intent will have it harder to cause permanent damage to your server
3. If you know what you are doing, change your port to something completely different from 25565. Most of the bots only scan 25565 as a port since it is the default one.
4. Don't rely on "anti griefing" plugins or anticheats to protect your server. They might stop some kid who just installed a cheatclient, but they will probably not stop more experienced people.

There will be also no real way to "stop this", since it isn't really an exploit / information breach, it is being done for other things than just minecraft servers, and it is actually a pretty basic thing that many people can do. It is just pinging a mc server like in your multiplayer list, just with an automated program and random IPs (or, more commonly, IPs in specific ranges of server hosters)

i've been joining random people's servers for years! these bots just made it easier for non tech savvy people, but anyone with some hacking knowledge (really basic 'script kiddy' stuff) can easily find public facing IPs of any server, not just minecraft!! that's how the USA's 2019 no fly list got leaked.
