Very nostalgic, when I was a kid in the late 70's/early 80's I'd spend my pocket money on Matchbox kits and knock one out every week using my Dads 'borrowed' Stanley knife and Humbrol enamel paints and eventually I achieved a finish something like your example.
I always had trouble free handing canopy frames ( It was years before I felt up to tackling an He 111) and my childlike fertile imagination actually invented canopy masks using sellotape, although I failed to take out a patent.🤨
I also remember dissolving sprue in liquid glue to use as a filler before I even knew you could buy the proper stuff.
Thanks for this vid, it brought back many happy memories.

As an only brush painter. I’d say you did an outstanding job of showing what you can do, with such little you have. Amazing brush painting skills man. :-)

Good result considering the quality of the paints. If Airfix's aim is to encourage people into the hobby then supplying quality paint in the starter sets would be a useful investment. Also a small piece of sandpaper, perhaps a knife with those snap off blades and a 'hints and tips' card with the instructions? Or a discount card to buy some decent paint and glue?

This was the funniest modelling video I’ve ever watched. You have my sense of humour. Made me laugh several times as well as keep me attentive to the things you were explaining.

You have every right to be pleased with this result! I think it looks better than anything I could produce with a full range of modelling gear. Brilliant! Well done James. Stay safe my friend.

I think you did a great job. Those paints that Airfix include are absolute pants. So you've done well to get an even finish.

Wow! Impressive outcome given the paint. Almost as if they’re trying to discourage beginners.

excellent, again, you got it spot on, less intensity and more of the this is what makes model making fun, if you have all the tools in the world airbrushes, fancy paint, setting solutions etc etc, well as far as I'm concerned you may as well go and work for british aerospace, when i was young we didn't have all of that and it was still so much fun, ,
well done, well done, well done, ingenuity is a craft in itself, if you haven't got something try a way round it, love the use of sprue and glue as filler, genius 👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍

That turned out ludicrously great, given what you had to work with. Great job!

Considering you only used the basic starter set bits provided it’s a pretty damn impressive build! It really makes you appreciate all the extra tools we use to build kits now but also shows you that you don’t need them to have fun making a kit.

Looking at this, the starter sets from Airfix are a real terror for starting modellers :)

It looks nice👍🏻, perhaps adding a drop of dish detergent to the thinning water would help to break the surface. I have some of those paints, I will try with and without. That was fun, thanks.
