We Came to Poland FOR THIS! (First Day in Zakopane, Tatra Mountains)

We left Krakow and came to the beautiful mountain town of Zakopane, Poland in the Tatra mountains. We take a funicular to the top of Gubalowka, soak in some thermal baths (termy Zakopianskie) and explore the towns main street, Krupowski.

I was there in Zakopane last week and it was pure magical, straight out of a Christmas card, like Whooville. The markets were great, the restaurants great, the little villages along the way from Krakow, just the perfect Christmas getaway. I can't wait to go back thanks for the video.

It's the first time I've seen someone have so much joy watching snow fall. But it's nice that someone still has the joy of a child seeing snow. These highlander wooden houses are called Zakopane style houses, and they have sloping roofs due to the heavy snowfall in this region. .

You guys are wonderful. I live in Poland (Kolobrzeg) work in gastronomy and I rarely see such smiling beautiful people enjoying their surroundings. I can see by your eyes and behavior that you are very charmed by this place:)

For us, that is, for me, my parents and family, Zakopane was a place where we spent Christmas in a hotel with an old restaurant where we served "sour soup" of fried oscypek cheese and grilled lamb, as well as sweets such as pancakes with fruit, oscypek cheese with cranberries or kutia. When I grew up, I started hiking in the Tatra Mountains in spring and summer and places such as Zakopane are scattered along the Carpathians up to Slovenia (not Slovakia) and in such places I ate grilled pork knuckle and beer then to the mountains then I went down I ate grilled cheeses in Slovakia and to the mountains then I went down and ate goulash in Hungary and the mountains, I usually ended up in Romanian Transylvania, where they fed me potato soup, wine and smoked bacon.

Zakopane translates to something like Buried. I always think it has something to do with how it's buried in snow at winter. :)

Not far from Zakopane is the town of Chochołow on the border with Slovakia where there is a much bigger thermal bath. There is a border crossing in the town with Slovakia and you can take a walk through Suchá Hora Slovakia. The weekend before last my wife and I went and stayed there for the weekend as a break from our Monday to Friday work lives in Krakow. My polish grandmother in law would have thought you were insane if she saw you rolling in the snow in a swimsuit 😂

I highly recommend a trek to Sarnia Skala which is a cliff in between the mountains. There’s a stunning view there. It’s about 2 hours one way on foot if you go using strążyska valley you can also see Siklawica waterfall

Great video 😊 I was born and raised in Zakopane, but I’ve lived in Krakow since 2004. Now I don’t travel to Zako literally at all because it became too too touristic and overpriced and I probably would never come back to live in Zako again, however, I spent there a fantastic childhood 😃

The hot salty cheese that you like is from here (from Zakopane). It is trademarked for that region. It is sheep cheese, named Oscypek.
