Portal 1's Advanced Chambers are a fairly interesting piece of post-game content to explore once you've finished the main campaign, or if you're attempting a 100% completion run of Portal. So in this video, I aim to explore the original versions of the Advanced Chambers found in the Portal 1 Beta files.

Credits to @wolfcl0ck for helping me distinguish the eras these Advanced Chambers come from!

sorry if the voice over is a little strange at parts here, i havent had much good chances to record clean lines as of late so it was quite difficult to get this pulled together, so i tried my best!!

The funny thing with test chamber 14 advanced, is that even though they switched the floors to metal, if you're good enough with airstrafing, you can still cheese the chamber and make onto the platform.

In the mod called Portal Prelude, Manhacks have custom sounds and textures to make them Aperture Science-themed.

Very nice! To anyone who might be wondering how I sourced the eras for each chamber, I looked at the ant lines. See, Leipzig era used thin orange lines, whereas x06 era used circular antlines. On the ends of each antline, there is usually a "corner" decal, which is denoted in later eras by a little aperture logo. However, since these replaced the earlier orange lines, if you replace your own antlines with said orange lines, you'll notice very quickly that the end bits will be improperly placed corners. When Ossy asked me to check these, I noticed that some chambers had small orange brushes at the ends of their antlines instead of corner decals, denoting that the chambers were originally from an era *before* circular antlines were added, meaning that they had to have come from leipzig era. The two that I was unable to source the eras from came as a result of them not having any antlines with ending bits that could be discerned.

I think the aperture version of a manhack would just be a miniture cylindrical disk that could hover and float around, and electrify the player if it gets too close. And they would be called the ‘Shock-Drone’ or the ‘Aperture Science Hovering Electricution Drone’

5:38 fwiw, there is a re-texture of the manhack to be aperture science themed in the mod portal prelude.

Portal Advanced Chambers that are the same as final, but they all have the 3 manhacks from that one early Advanced Chamber just being unleashed from the elevator along with you

5:51 I don't think that's an advanced chamber thing, the prospekt era had the exit door right there as well so the "hard" version just used an earlier version of testchmb_a_14, just like most of the others.

Speaking of older versions of harder versions of Portal 1 chambers, did any of the Portal Epic Edition CBT maps go through any major design overhauls before release?
