I had the huge honor of working with Rachel Hardy on this one! Her beautifully haunting voice suits the song really well!
This is my final Arcane cover of 2021! More OST covers coming in 2022!
LYRICS:
Dear friend across the river
My hands are cold and bare
Dear friend across the river
I'll take what you can spare
I ask of you a penny
My fortune it will be
I ask you without envy
We raise no mighty towers
Our homes are built of stone
So come across the river
And find... The World Below.

"Is that...singing?"

"It's just a song my mother used to hum when I was little."

On my second watch of the show, I realized Jinx was humming this melody in ep 7 as she was walking on the bridge before the Ekko fight.

I didn't notice that before, but I love the detail, that Powder doesn't really react to her parent's deaths. She doesn't understand anything that happened here. But she looks up to her sister and sees her breaking down in tears for some reason, so she gets sad too and hugs her.

Arcane: opens with a brutal emotional gut punch.
Viewers: Damn, what a way to start a series.
Arcane: but wait, there's more!

Vander's realization, seeing how his rebellion failed, the only change being the loss of life, two young kids becoming orphans...
A moving scene

ahhh seeing that picture of Vander hugging the girls as adults now after seeing season 2 act 2 makes it hit so hard

1:24 It's really sad how Vi looks directly at her parents' bodies and feels sadness, while Powder looks to Vi and starts to feel sadness. It shows that Powder is immensely attached to Vi. It's identical to how young children look to their parents when they fall down. When the parents panic when their child falls, the child panics as well because their feelings are not developmentally independent of their parents' yet. Thus, Powder looks to Vi for validation of her feelings which indicates her attachment towards Vi. On a side note, Vi is pretty young herself so having her bear this burden breaks my heart as well :(

You know that enforcers killed their parents, resulting in orphaned kids, but did you notice that later Jinx's actions kills Marcus, leaving his daughter an orphan (from what we can tell). This show has some many beautiful parallels and it is a reason why this is one of the most beautiful shows.

The River and The Bridge have significant importance in Arcane. The River is where the old Silco died, betrayed by Vander who he considered a brother. The Bridge is where Powder's innocence first began to fade in the aftermath of the civil war there, and Powder ultimately "died" there, too, years later.

Vi humming this at the end just makes me feel so sad. 😭

“Oh I hated you for what you’ve done. But as time passed, so did my hate. And I was left with an understanding. The only way to defeat a superior enemy is to stop at nothing. To become what they fear. I hated you, but you kept my respect" - silco
but, the oceans of arcane will be scoured with blood, blood of silco's enemies

When The fucking FIRST Scene hit harder than some others entire shows, is without doubt a UNIQUE stuff...

Just came here after the final episode
A goodbye to a masterpiece
And a fitting final song for it.

The lyrics of this song were really well thought-out. It's the song a Zaunite would write to try and appeal to the sympathy of someone from Piltover. To have Powder singing this really adds to the immersion of the wonderful world they crafted.

My grandfather just passed, and even though this song doesn't have anything to do with it. It reminds me of his stories about his childhood, and the things he tried to impart in us so we would never have to experience them. Thank you so much for creating this cover, its helping me let out emotions.

I never even fully realised what the lyrics meant because of the genuinely shock I was in. It’s so tragic that Powder was singing about asking for the charity of those who killed their parents.

Aracne is over, it was absolutely insane. And it ends as it starts, with the same emotional and beautiful music.

OK. 2:46. That drawing of Vi and Powder grown up in Vander's arms breaks my heart even more. What Could Have Been.
