Genuine question from the EU: If a lot of people are that mad about the policies, why aren't there more protests? Why aren't people mass-emailing their senators? I only get my view from media and influencers, but it seems like all is happening is tiktoks to protest and people saying "I can't do anything anyway". In the EU (especially france, they'd prob set entire streets on fire) people would probably riot on the streets. Is it just my perception, or what is going on? Question is genuine, as I'm half shocked, and half just confused abt current US events.

If there was actual merit to the policies the administration's incompetent implementation would guarantee their failure. As it is, the policies are intended to do indiscriminate harm and the crude presentation, implemetation, and defence of the policies is amplifies the harm.
Meanwhile, , the Colbert show is so smooth, their timely comedic commentary gets its point across no matter how hard you are laughing and/or feel like crying.

The writers probably debated: "OK, we're on in half an hour. Parachute or no parachute?" "Let's leave it in- as a metaphor about how the rich get away with everything. Plus, if we make it look like he got hurt we'll all be deported."
