Introduction to the PostGIS tool which converts the PostgreSQL database system into a spatial database by adding three characteristics: spatial data types, spatial indexes, and functions that operate on them. This talk explains in a high level what PostGIS is, its characteristics (spatial data types, spatial indexes, and basic functions), and what type of analysis we can do with this powerful spatial tool.
