Located in the affluent Bangsar residential suburb of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the 38-story Menara Etiqa Building has incorporated a lush greenwall into its building design, making it stand out amongst the grey undertones of its surroundings. Developed by Etiqa Life Insurance Berhad and designed by VERITAS Architects, the Menara Etiqa is an office development designed to the highest specification of international standards. Adjacent to two high rise commercial towers and the Bangsar light rail train station, the office tower sits on a humble 1.15-acre site. The Menara Etiqa is built towards achieving dual green building accreditation of the Green Building Index Gold rating and the GreenRE Platinum rating. Plenty of green features range from using efficient energy sources to a simple daylight harvesting strategy to the beautiful living wall.

Designed to promote biophilia in the urban landscape, the striking greenwall covers approximately 1,000 square meters and wraps one corner of the 8-story parking podium. To accommodate the building’s unique design, cover all edges of the building façade, and create a seamless living wall, proprietary Elmich VersiWall GP (or VGP) Mounting Panels were installed on the corners at an angle, creating a visually enveloping aesthetic. The mounting base for the VGP 2060 Trays consist of aluminum panels measuring 3 meters by 1.3 meters. These panels allow each tray to be serviceable from behind via access from the multi-story car park, greatly increasing the ease of maintenance. A total of 1,200 VGP Trays were used with 34 species of plants suitable to the year-round tropical climate. Irrigation was established via piping that feeds into each individual tray and sectioned into zones, feeding water and fertilizer directly into each tray. Anti-lift arms and multi-point mounting features of each VGP Tray significantly reduce the risk of dislodgement, even during wind speeds of up to 108 km/h. Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the Menara Etiqa is described as an uprising jewel in the city with its diamond shaped design and green-rated crystal grey curtain wall. And the façades of the Menara Etiqa boast a vibrant vertical garden, providing a refreshing feature for passersby and highlighting ecological design with sustainable site development.
