APEX Auto Magazine will soon show the TestDrive of the new TOYOTA PRIUS 1.8 HYBRID. We already have an acceleration video* of the PRIUS for you that also shows a new element as part of the test: a full emergency stop**.

The TOYOTA PRIUS 1.8 HYBRID. Since 1997 Toyota makes use of the hybrid drivetrain and not without success; starting with the then new and innovative Prius. The brand recently announced that it has sold over 9 million hybrid cars over the course of almost 20 years. The latest, fourth generation Prius features all kinds of new tech and standard safety features as well as an all-new double wishbone rear suspension. That should improve its driving dynamics drastically.

* As you might have noticed, the layout of our FULL THROTTLE-video has been slightly changed. The scrolling bar in the top of the screen is the actual measurement of the acceleration times. The times up to 50 km/h and 100 km/h are underlined in red and show the ‘best-time’-measurement that has taken place at another time and are therefore not indicative for the acceleration in the video. Pay attention: the acceleration in the video can show short interruptions due to traffic.

** We have added a new element (FULL EMERGENCY STOP) to the video to show what happens when full braking is applied in order to show the stability of the car in a situation where such is needed. This extreme stress test (as well as the acceleration) is conducted by professionals and should under no circumstances be reproduced. And viewers must understand that we only test the acceleration and braking performance of a car where and when circumstances allow. Fact: Brakes can reach temperatures in excess of 500 Degrees Celsius or 932 Degrees Fahrenheit.

On thing I don't like about smaller cars is when the brakes are making that gravelly grinding sound under heavy/emergency braking.

Is this a JDM Prius? I thought all Prius are electronically speed locked at 180 kmph.

why did they put such a large engine in a hybrid? why not go with 1liter 3inline turbo.
whouldnt that make it even more fuel efficient?

with the new setup the car goes over 224kmh

u can put a 4kw batterie in it then u can go over 220 and with a 6kw batterie 250kmh
