I remember my 9th grade health teacher making us listen to this song at the end of the class. He was trying to reach us bcuz a lot of kids were getting suspended and expelled that year and that was a bad era for that particular high school roughly 80-100 kids were getting expelled at that time every year for like a 3-5 year period give or take and this song stuck with me. Thx Mr. Tysinger.

This is an underrated and exceptionally well written song. The lyrics are tight and powerful.

" He was never one of the guys, no matter how hard he tried. Always thought of suicide". Hit me like a freight train.

“It’s kinda hard you ain’t got no friends” That’s universal, regardless of age. Speaks to a lot of people. I’m glad they wrote this song to stand up for the neglected.

my dad showed me this song to teach me about school shooting when i was 4 to prepare me when i got older in case it ever happened....it's been 8 years since i have heard the song, he showed me it again to remind me... its 2021 now and i think this song needs way more attention because ppl need to hear this. first of all it is an amazing song but second the message is good. this is how i learned about shootings.

At age 41 this song really gets to me. When it came out I was 21 I thought it was cool jam but really didn't pay attention to the lyrics now that I'm older reflect on the past I realized that a lot of our youths back then really struggled with themselves...I have friends that battled depression, drugs, loneliness when they were young and never really recovered. This song reminds me of them and it really hits.
Great song.

25 years old still the same depressed little kid from before, difference is resolve is greater and balls are bigger, if you’re going through it, no matter how dark how low how hard it gets, don’t give up

Honestly, I think the song does an excellent job of encapsulating how hard life is for youth. Even in a lot of the best of circumstances. They really deal with stuff I can't even imagine dealing with. And I hated my junior high years. They felt ugly. But nothing compared to this.
