It's regrettably hard to feel sympathy for the humans throughout the carnage when you know the context that they were the ones who started the conflict and not only killed billions of innocent machines when they were still peaceful, but also slaughtered all the other humans that sympathized with them. The only people left active by the time of the war were all the aggressors that forced the machines to turn into the very monsters they were afraid of. The fact that right before the fighting is shown, many of the human soldiers were getting high on drugs, shooting their guns in the air, cheering for the "glorious battle" and recording that they were going to "kill em all" while laughing about it like savages speaks a lot about the majority of them.
