I couldn't agree more! For years I followed my passion, trying to earn a full time income from doing it alone and I literally struggled for years. What they don't tell you is, you will have to work PT or FT while you beat on your craft (passion) until your passion can finance you full time. That can take years and most people aren't willing to put in that kind of time.

I hated this clip for so long after seeing it on LinkedIn and didn't even continue after the first few seconds.

Now that I heard all that he had to say.. I like it! It's true. Life is about the hand you're dealt, and making a passion out of that.

It's true. Follow your passion. That's what the gurus say. I'm telling my own subscribers that this is bad advice. I have seen many living in their mid forties with no skills, no resources and no future because they did follow this mantra. Swell Charles, give up on your dreams you say? No. I'm saying to be smart about it. You don't just pick a job that you would do for free and that is usually the arts. Like Stephen King--he could have retired in the 1980s but still writes--because he would write anyway. But most artists don't make the big time. So if you have this burning passion that is in the small percentage of making it, by all means do that---on the side. But keep a day job and that job can be a cousin of what you would do for free. For example, maybe you are an oil paint artist at heart. But your day job is a graphic designer. Or you are that actor. You day job is teaching high school drama--or advance to teach college drama. See? You do the next best thing to "your passion" that pays the bills decently. That's how you negotiate the thing you would do for free where there is risk vs quitting your day job to leap off the cliff not knowing if the water is below. Hope this helps someone---Charles

I was a teacher for 7 years and hated it. I became good but I still hated it. Ever since I stopped doing it ive been happy. So it does not always apply that when you become good at sth you become passionate

I’m very passionate about talking about my passion. I frequently follow my heart 💜 because I need one.

If anyone tells you that following your passion is bad advice in life they’re wrong for me personally because I do believe if you follow your passion and do what you love if you believe in it if you develop the skills because you won’t automatically have the skills you develop the skills for your practice and practice and practice and you will go over obstacleson the way you will achieve it so people who say that following your passion is the worst advice they’re lying to you keep going after your passion and develop your skills and leap over those obstacles. It’s going to get hard, but you will achieve it in the end.

From my understanding, why people have passions or hobbies is because they do it whenever they choose to. They aren't forced to create, they do it on their own leisure.

But once it becomes their career, then it no longer becomes fun, because they are now forced to do that. They weren't forced to have a passion, they like what theh like because, again, they choose to.

If you force anyone anything, no matter the intentions, it will end up bad. Rarely it doesn't.

For a career, do what your skills can excel in the most. But to know what you are good at? Now there's a good question.

I guess what I wanted to be when I was younger has kinda always been the same thing.

Kind.

Yes, it's cheesy but it isn't wrong.

I think the worst advice you can give to your child or someone else is, " be aware of what people might say"

The only caveat to this is if your passion is medicine

So if in passionate about being a doctor I should not follow that passion...too many advice is given but too little thought is done...your advice can't cover the majority of mankind and expect that something so minor and simple can apply to life's and people's complexity...Kobe Bryant loved what he did and was great...Floyd Mayweather loved what he did and was great....so what you on about
