Wondering how long it takes to edit a movie?

Whether you're working on a short film, an indie project, or a Hollywood blockbuster, post-production is key to crafting the final product. In this video, we’ll break down the typical editing time frames, factors that influence the process, and the step-by-step stages of film editing.

Breaking down the editing process, step by step: Assembly cut. The editor arranges scenes according to the script, giving the film its basic structure. Rough cut. The pacing is refined and initial narrative edits are made.

Fine cut. Detailed adjustments are made to enhance performances, ensure continuity, and fine-tune pacing. This is also when directors and producers usually provide feedback. Picture lock. The visual edit is finalized, with no further changes to the non-VFX picture.

Visual effects (VFX). VFX are created and integrated into the film. This stage can take a long time, especially for action or sci-fi films. Color correction and grading. Color balance and consistency are adjusted, and the film’s visual style is enhanced.
