I genuinely would recommend this lens to anyone needing a telephoto on the Sony system. Check out these video and photos samples I was able to get while using the lens for the last month.

Photos, video, stabilization, 2x converter, macro, I test it all.

I have this lens in my kit and it is the best overall lens that I have. My camera is the Sony A7R V its an awesome camera with 61 megapixel sensor. I do a lot of flower photography and use the 1.4 x teleconverter and at times use the APS - 35 setting for extreme closeups. I have just purchased the 2x teleconverter to shoot in macro 1:1. I have the Sony 90mm macro lens but will be selling it as the technology with the 70-200mm is much better. Great review. Thanks

great video, I also own a 135 -1.8 but I could/will not get rid of it, such a sharp lens is a must have, that being said I bought the 70-200 gm and I'm very happy with it, two different lenses. portraits 135 1.8 moving subject in an out of frame 70-200 .

i use the 70-200 GM Vii with an A7Riv and in a pinch i just turn on Super 35 mode and my results have been incredible. I want that 2x conv haha so i can use it with super 35 all that power in just 1 lens!

Great video! If I had seen it before, you would have saved me hours of debating with myself… luckily, I did pick it up, couldn’t be happier!

The 70-200 F/4 was my favorite lens then I upgraded to the 135GM - such a beautiful lens. But, I really miss the feel and flexibility of the 70-200, it seems this new version might be worth the value of two primes, or a prime and the 100-400GM.

How’s the autofocus and sharpness at 400? Btw can you share the link of the bag you using?

It would be awesome to see an upgrade of the 70-200 f4

tengo el 70-200 f2.8 Gm ii And when I put the 2x teleconverter on it, it became very unstable and my experience was not the best... it loses stability.

No issues with focus when using tele converter? If heard horror stories with the gen 1 version. Otherwise, Looks like a great lens but wish Sony would move away from white. Draws attention from both people and wildlife.

Hey hopefully you found some better info for the lens, I definitely recommend Mark Galer review or even Gerald, the focus lock buttons are all programmable to different functions your just limiting to stock features atm.

Hello, i am going to buy the 70-200 gm II.

I am not sure if i want to get a Teleconverter.

Could you do a test where you put the 70-200 on a tripod and take a picture. Afterword you put the 2.0 Teleconverter on it and shoot the same frame. That would be really nice!

I want to campare the 200mm (Cropped to 400mm) vs. the 400mm (Tel 2.0). I want to see if the TC one is really better than the croped one

Hi Kyle, I was interested in your comments re the Sony 100-400mm vs. new mk ii 70-200 GM f2.8 with a 2x converter - extending the reach to 400mm effective f5.6. Can it really hold it's own against the 100-400mm in real world use? For sure it's going to easily outperform that lens up to 200mm. I had heard that the 1.4x was probably about as far as one should go if desiring real quality into edges. What's your view on this lens with either a 1.4x or a 2x? - My main use case with teleconverter would be extracting distant tight landscape vistas and occasional wildlife, mainly when travelling?

Previously when considering the 100-400 GM I eventually opted to buy Sony's G 200-600mm rather than the 100-400 GM (more reach), but my 200-600 never comes out for casual travel, only for specific sports or wildlife events - typically just 1 day, mainly on account of sheer heft. I now also own the 135mm f1.8 which I love and had used on an a7Riv in crop mode for a sharp quasi 26Mp 203mm. But all that was pre announcement of the refresh to the 70-200 f2.8 which I always thought was too big and not that special vs primes like my 135mm or 90 macro.

I have now sold all my bodies and currently just have a new a7iv (AF on a7Riv too slow esp with 200-600mm). I may eventually buy an a1, having now also sold my old a9. I also used to have a Sony 70-200 f4 (for travel) but sold it and switched to a Tamron 70-180 f2.8 - which was sharper, but I didn't like feel, build quality, lower reach and no OSS - so recently sold it and placed an order for this new GM 70-200mm mk ii f2.8. I'm hoping to be able to use this as a great general purpose short tele and then also do exactly what you are implying, with a converter (either 1.4 or 2x not yet decided), so would appreciate any insights re using TCs.

Good video 👍🏻. How about this 70-200GM II with Teleconverter 2x? You have a 2.8 lens until 200 and a 400 mm at 5.6 with tele. How sharp is this tándem?

Hello and thank you. In fact I would like a test of the 70-200 II (I have it) with the x2 teleconverter (I'm thinking of buying it).
