Hello Farm Family. Thank you for joining us for another upload. The work on a homestead never stops but we love it. Directly off of the road from the Alabama Homesteaders Meet & Greet at Petals From The Past, we jumped right into our next project...an Aviary for our Peafowl Elvis (Peacock) & Priscilla (Peahen). This build will more than triple the space of the current home so we are excited to get it under way. Per usual, Natalie & I have a plan which typically makes it easy to execute...but things don't always go as planned.

Hello everyone - had the question of why not free range the Peafowl come up so our thought process is below. Thank you all for the support & loving messages:

Our eventual goal is to free range our Peafowl 🦚. With them being newer to our property & area it is crucial that they are provided a safe & enclosed space to get to know that our property is home & that we provide & care for them or else they will just fly away to their old farm.

By having them in the aviary we can accomplish that. Also - I recently confirmed that in the land around us there are at minimum 4 wild peacocks & 3 wild peahens. The fear is that during breeding season Elvis may leave the farm to “protect” his property or the 4 wild peacocks will come to our property to either protect their perceived territory &/or attempt to mate with Priscilla.

We feel confident that at minimum once Elvis & Priscilla have some chicks, those will be free range as the only property they will know is ours.

Things happen on farms, it's frustrating, but it is still the best life style for good people. It is impressive how everything is neat and tidy. You are teaching your children good habits that will do them a great service in the future. GOD's blessings on you and yours.
