Comet NEOWISE made July 2020 a memorable month. Here are the astronomy events that will occur in August 2020.

August 2: Conjunction of Moon, Jupiter, and Saturn
August 3: Full Moon

August 9: The Moon will occult Mars
The Lunar Occultation of Mars on August 9 2020 is one of the key astronomy events in August this year. Moon will pass in front of Mars. It will eclipse Mars for some time. This occultation will be visible from the parts of South America. From the rest of the world, the Moon will appear to pass close to Mars in Pisces.

August 12: The Perseid meteor shower
The flagship astronomy event of August 2020, the Perseid meteor shower will peak on August 12. Just like the Geminids of December, the Perseids are one of the best meteor showers of the year. The Perseids can produce up to 150 meteors per hour under the dark skies.

How to watch the Perseid meteor shower? There is no need for any telescope or binoculars to watch the Perseids. Just find a dark place away from the light pollution and give your eyes at least 30 minutes to adapt to the darkness. The radiant of the shower lies in the constellation of Perseus.

August 13: Venus at dichotomy
Venus will reach its greatest eastern elongation and will be half-lit - its dichotomy.

August 17: Kappa Cygnid Meteor Shower
The second meteor shower of August, the Kappa Cygnids will peak on August 17. Its radiant lies in the constellation of Draco. It is a weak meteor shower, producing about 3 meteors per hour

August 19: New Moon

August 21: The Moon at perigee

August 29: Ceres at opposition
Asteroid Ceres will make its closest approach to Earth on August 29.

August 29: 20 Massalia at opposition
Asteroid Massalia will make its closest approach to Earth on August 29.

These asteroids that will pass near the Earth at the end of August 2020 pose no threat to us.

Lovely compilation, particularly liked the Perseid meteor shower! July has been a great month of incredible astronomical events, but here in London with light pollution and cloud it's been challenging to observe comet Neowise!! Glad I persevered as when finally saw it was thrilling! Let's hope August is just as exciting!

Tonight the moon was BLOOD red...beyond what I have ever seen, or even how it claims the “red” to be.
Idk why people can’t see the changes in it. Ive been on Earth for almost 50yrs and have NEVER seen anything like it.
Course, I can’t assure I’ve/we’ve been on “this” Earth all of this time. There’s no explanation to its odd behavior the last several years..now either. We never had it waxing or waning horizontally. The definitions still describes it as right /left still.
None of this up/down crap.
Nor did we get a heads up to this red moon. Why not?
Because there is no way to know how this mom operates anymore.
It should’ve been foretell-able just as our calendars once were.
The moon has come up from almost the north now...then a few days later- back from the east.
Anybody who remembers how the moon phases were, would know this is impossible.

It’s absolutely mind-blowing.
