How to Draw a Brick - Easy Things to Draw
Here we will discuss how to draw a brick. We will discuss different methods to draw a brick to develop some better understanding of some skills of good drawing. In this method we learn how to draw a brick as follow:
Use the square tool to makes a square or rectangle the size of which you want your wall to be. Make it the color you want the bricks to be. Create a new layer and title it bricks. Use the square tool again to make a rectangle the size of which you want each brick to be. Use the fill and stroke panel to set the rectangle to no fill and, under the stroke style tab, increase the stroke width to the thickness you want the space between the bricks to be. The rectangle you just made into the corner of your larger rectangle. Next, select the first brick, copy it and paste as many as you think you'll need off to the side. You can make more later on if you don't have enough. Now, arrange the brick rectangles onto the large rectangle. Make sure to leave parts of the bricks outside the canvas so that each row isn't the same. You can leave it as it is now if you don't want your wall to have any textures. If you do want the textures to follow this step and the next. Select the large rectangle and go to the filters tab, go to the overlays, and select growing cells. Lastly, lock the large rectangle and use the select tool to select all the smaller rectangles; you can click and drag a box around the entire canvas to select all the bricks. Once they are all selected, go to the filters tab, look under ABCs, and click roughen. To create the look of bricks and mortar, you'll need to draw each brick separately. Use the linear brick design as a guide for drawing your brick pattern in more detail. I prefer to draw them freehand, drawing the outline of each brick just fractionally away from the guidelines to create the brick-and-mortar pattern. If you're going to use a crisp, outlined style of drawing, you can draw them directly in pen on your drawing. Or you can skip this stage altogether and go directly to hatching your bricks, using the grid as a guide.
In this next method we draw another brick wall as follow:
Draw a 6 inch (15.2 cm) by 6 inches (15.2 cm) square. Draw a 12x12 grid (consisting of half an inch per block) inside the square. Use a darker pencil to trace all of the horizontal lines. At the first horizontal row that you created, draw a vertical line every 1 inch (2.5 cm) or 2 blocks of the grid. Do this every other row (1st, 3rd, 5th, etc.). At the second horizontal row, draw a vertical line at half an inch or the first block of the grid then measure 1 inch (2.5 cm) interval or 2 blocks of the grid then add another vertical line/s until you reach the end. Do this at every other row (2nd, 4th, 6th etc.) In the drawing. Don't forget to use your ruler and erase the sketch lines. Color your drawing and your brick wall is done.
