Sister Nancys version was an unprepared freestyle when she was about 19 just messing around in a studio. Amazing really.

Waiting at a small venue for TatM to hit the stage. People were chanting "Toots! Toots! Toots!" A gentle hand on my shoulder. I turn and Toots is looking at me, smiling, eyes bright, "Shhh!" Like, it's our secret he is trying to sneak onto the stage. Thank you, Toots.

This song reminds me of my father. He loved this song. COVID-19 recently claimed his life.

Anotha' timeless musical gift from Jamaica to the world. If any Jamaican reading this, u have no idea how much Chacka-Demus and Pliers version was and still danced in Domincan Republic. 🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴

I could not help noticing that Lauryn Hill used the riff Wat a Bam Bam at the end of the song "lost ones"
on the Miseducation album

My Dad used to sing this at random times but I was never really aware as to where it came from. He never had any reggae in the house in those days.

I left home and came across Toots and The Maytals through a computor game of all places. I soon became a massive fan.

Imagine my surprise when I heard these lyrics. It turns out that my Dad had been a huge fan of theirs ever since he had been a boy in Jamaica. Strange to think that the two of us came to love this band, decades apart.
