In France, landlords are not allowed to lease rooms/studios/apartments below 9 sqm (96 sft) and with a ceiling height at least 2.2 meters. That’s 20 cubic meter. Maids rooms that are usually located on the top floor of buildings in large cities have been converted into apartments but they must be at least 9 sqm. I guess some landlords try to cheat but it’s more and more difficult now.
