How to screencast with ffmpeg properly.
I believe ffmpeg is enough since this is what obs use, so why to use a GUI program when you can just use ffmpeg simply.

Thanks for 2k Subs.

I believe this was a terrible explanation .. for new users.
But you can read and understand about every option I showed -
with -> man ffmpeg (and then search option by using '/' )

I like how we've come full circle. Before OBS was a thing this was one of the most popular ways to do a screen recording.

Wow man! Your quality of content delivery has improved a lot. Your videos teach a lot and that too at a great pace. Keep up the work!! Eagerly waiting for the next one!

For minor tasks or automation ffmpeg works wonders!

This only works specifically for linux because of x11grab and the :0.0 input. Also, I have gotten Windows ffmpeg capture working before, but it's awful for anything that is a video game.

Great video! I can only recommend using FLAC instead of mp3 or whatever other lossy codec (I think the library is also just called flac), since you're uploading to Youtube, it's going to get encoded again and there will be some quality loss. If you're just recording audio and for yourself, libopus @ 64 kbps should be more than enough.

Hi BugsWriter! Do you know we can have color within the man pages...put this in your ~/.zshrc file:

export MANPAGER="sh -c 'col -bx | bat -l man -p'"

This may work for Xorg but unfortunately it doesn't work using Wayland. OBS will support Wayland properly with its next release though.

Anyway I would like to see something like this working on Wayland with ffmpeg only just asking for permission to record upfront like the screen sharing using xdg-portal. I'm also looking forward to configuring a realtime video processing in Pipewire. So editing videos can be mostly done during recording (similar to the possibilities in OBS combining multiple sources for streaming).

Still gold content. But soo much pain to read this on YT. Did you think about a running/uploading on a peertube instance?
edit: moreover, that could avoid you to get flag with contents like ZmFjZWJvb2sgbGVha3MK (woops, I accidentally forgot to turn off base64)

I mean...I guess you could do it this way. I'd rather just push a nice GUI button and have my recording. This seems like a huge waste of time.
