I had the joy of watching Gavin Harisson explain and then play this section at a drum clinic. Absolute genius what they accomplished here.

Your production is great, really hope you get more viewers to make this worthwhile for you because I find it so informative!

This is amazing! The thing that made this part even more confusing the first time I heard it is that the 5/8 guitar part showed up a year or so before in the song Anesthetize, with a completely different drum groove (4/4 as the host, I think?).

I am impressed by how well you are able to explain things without rumbling without over complicating to the point and so elegantly.
Your videos are top.
I really enjoy your channel. Thank you!

Great analysis of this! This has always been one of my favorite PT songs because of this section. Especially when they all sync up on the 3 (or 9?). Good stuff!

Wow! very well explained, many thanks! I cannot stop listening to this section and wondering how can you play so complex music that seem so natural! PT are just geniuses

Amazing! Got to know the song a week ago (though I'm a huge fan of porcupine tree for years). As always, your videos are so fun :) Also proud to say I figured this stuff out too hahaha

Dude, thank you so much for this video. I've loved this section ever since I've first heard it and always wanted an explanation of how all the different beats intertwine and come together in the end (I'm not very knowlegable in the rhythm department ahah). I can finally rest assured that I now (somewhat) understand it ahah

*YES!* This is the most insane thing ever! First time I heard it was on the Anesthetize Blu-Ray, instant nirvana for my ADHD brain. I can only keep track of two of the signatures simultaneously in my head, first the 5 and the 7, then the 7 and the 3 (my favorite). The part where 5, 7 and 3 are all playing, I have to sacrifice the 5. Man, Gavin is such a beast. He has a great philosophy regarding time signatures: Everything is just patterns of 2s and 3s.
