Virtua Fighter Review - Sega Saturn

Back in 1993, the world of fighting games was changed forever with the release of Virtua Fighter - the world's first 3D fighting game! As important as it was back then, the questions I ask now are is still worth playing, and can it make our Sega Saturn Top 10?

It really feels like Sega was determined to make sure that the Saturn got off on the wrong foot.

I 💯 appreciate the importance of this game but if I remember Virtua Fighter 2 was well underway in development for Saturn so by the time I got my console (Xmas 95) this looked like it belonged on the 32X I think the Remix edition that came out made up a little bit VF2 was way ahead of this

I do prefer the Sega Saturn version of Virtua Fighter 1 despite what the 32x supporters say about the 32x version being superior.
The lack of content in terms of character story is still a trend they continue today sadly.

I feel like Virtua Fighter and other Saturn games needed more time in the oven before it came out.

Not sure why things like backgrounds and character select are being seen as a negative. This is an arcade port not a Saturn original game. Also this game is so much better than the original Tekken in terms of gameplay and feel

It was not an awful port but It was still a shame that Sega did such a rush job with it. This would have been a huge deal if they put in a better effort porting over VF, given that it's one of Sega's biggest arcade hits at the time and could have catapulted the Saturn to a stronger standing then it had, but probably not to PS1 levels of market dominance.
