Eh. I think people have a problem with one concept. Consciousness is a gradual spectrum not a certain defined moment.

Even plants can process some information and respond to their environment.

The real issues are where to draw lines of what consciousness really matters and how to prioritize.

I don’t know about the ageing minds of animals but I’ve found as I age now, I’m able to tell my mind to shut up and kind of switch it off. All my life my mind has been this continual nightmare analysing everything to death, always randomly playing back painful memories and this selfish torturer always ambushing me whenever I have these few happy times. I think since us humans stop being hunting-gathers and constantly being alert to danger, the curse of having big brains meant we became prisoners to our subconsciousness, probably explaining the majority of depressions. It didn’t help having medical conditions since birth that can influence your brain chemistry when you have medical crisis. Thankfully with ageing, things that would have at one time bothered you to no-ends, now you simply can’t be bothered by it, (why worry about it today when you can do so tomorrow?) The saddest part to ageing is the fact you’ll lose loved ones so frequently, which reminds you that your expiry date is getting even closer. And you know something, when you eventually die, (which you will, ) none of these worries come with you, so for now be kind to yourself and feel free to tell your thoughts to shut up for a bit

I feel like the juice shouldn't have been included. But maybe they had a problem with them looking away. But juice is really not healthy - just sugar water with few nutrients. I wonder if they even tried it without the juice.

Simpler, that is, more parsimonious explanations of the observations are required before moving to ones alluding to unobservable and invented constructs.
