I generally really do NOT care for "modernized" opera productions, but I'd envisioned the Rhinemaidens jumping up out of my fishtanks when I was in 5th grade! I think this is a riot! The performances of this (Mehta) cycle are certainly remarkable in beauty as well.

I generally dont like "modernized" operas, but "la Fura del Baus" stage direction is excellent!! Innovative, respectfull of the piece and the writer, brillant thus not "too much", you can not find better! I saw a modernized "Fliegende Holländer", this was the sole "modernized" opera i enjoyed so much i came to watch it 3 times in 2 weeks! La Fura del Baus = run buy a ticket, this is well spent money, and you will keep it in the eyes! EXCELLENT!!

I miss the intro!! It started with a proton, then came an electron so they made the hydrogen atom. Then it formed a water molecule (H2O) with oxygen an another hydrogen. Then there was full of water molecules that formed drops and finally the river Rhein with the Rheinmaides dancing and singing into it. I saw it in Valencia and was my first time at the opera and since the first E flat major note I became wagnerian.

The Rheinmaidens are silly characters, true, but they do not deserve to be put in torture devices from "Saw."

Is there Rheingold 0/8 I missed? Sorry but without Urgrund at "before any time" the Ring story has no begin. Maybe end of Goetterdaemmerung is cut, too?
Anyway... There are really great video installation moments (unforgettable the Ring rotates around Earth!) but forget costumes and stage which are together nothing else than one big insulting from begin to the end. Metha's music is so la-la, he isn't the great Ring conductor.

Not a fan of the yellow water they are made to synchronised swim in. It looks like something very different from the rhein's water and also, what if one of them gets water up her nose? They won't be able to sing! Goodness...
