I actually kind of like it. I know it looks unnatural but I like it. I like it if I can modify it and turn it off if I want. I like to watch a scene with it on and then watch it with it off. It's kind of what it would look like if it were being filmed with you right in the room with them. The slower 24 frames per second blurred look is actually what's unnatural.

I don't like soap operas because of the acting but I LOVE the soap opera effect... Everything just looks so smooth and fluid. Trying to figure out how to increase the soap opera effect on my T.V. lol

Very informative video! But you should work a bit more on being comfortable and "natural" in front of the camera. It's kind of distracting when your face is close to expressionless, while at the same seeing your eyes go from side to side reading the script.

Otherwise, great video. :)

JonesyBoy - I was given an older Toshiba model 46sl417U for a second bedroom recently, I'm not a fan of Toshiba but free is free. The picture is very good for an eight-year-old TV except for the f##king SOE which IMO ruins everything, particularly movies. Nothing mentioned on Toshiba's site, nothing in their forums, manuals etc. on how to turn it off. I came across your video today and you talked about the settings for different models. When you mentioned 'clear scan' for Toshiba TVs I immediately stopped the video, checked the TV and KABOOM no more SOE! Thanks for your help, greatly appreciated.

It's funny to watch him read the script he wrote out beforehand under the camera. Looks so weird

You needed to show an example of what it is... It was tough just hearing it... we want to see it in action. Thumbs Down.

Guess i'm weird but I like this effect.
I am a hardcore gamer and can't stand playing games below 100 fps on a 3ms PRT and yes I said 100 fps.
I can tell 30 fps from 60 fps and same as 60 fps to 100 fps, anything above that I can't tell very well.
That being said The first time I noticed this effect was on a friends TV while watch a Batman movie, It was so fast paced and the motion was so smooth it literally felt as if I was watching the production of the movie and not the final product.
It took me about 20 minutes to really forget about it being there and then I started to really enjoy it.
It is just so real, smooth, and perfect I know in some cases it makes a movie seem "fake" but the raw realness just brings the movie into a new light for me.
I don't know if it's because I game out so much and enjoy this naturally now or what but my next TV will have the SOE active.
I just now need to make sure my gf can get on board with me.

Soap opera effect isn't nearly as painful to watch as this video.

i dont see how u cant like the higher refresh rate or clear motion ..it looks more real and makes movies seem more clear..it almost feels 3dish, i love it...its the future

A guy with a blinking pony tail due to poor chroma keying has something to say. ;) I prefer the effect. When I first saw it my eyes bugged. I had to get used to it but I wish I had a tv with this feature!

Can't front I it, it makes the images look 3D w/o the glasses and now that picture quality is picking up universally the "cheap" look u speak of is almost non existent.

The problem is his script or teleprompter is low so he has to look down instead of at the camera which makes it unnatural. Move the script behind the camera to solve this.

When I have it on my image looks clear and not grainy

Maybe it's cuz I come from a gaming perspective, but I've always thought of faster FPS as better. It looks smooth and life-like, like a window. I would have soap opera on were it not for the ugly ghosting it causes on fast-moving images.

My uncles TV has this, I'm the only one who notices. When I house sat for him I changed the TV setting to "Game" and it fixed it. Last time I went to his house it was back to the SOE....freakin annoying
