This early Elton John-Bernie Taupin composition was originally recorded and released on his first album "Empty Sky" in 1969. Then the song was re-recorded during the "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" sessions at Strawberry Studios, France in 1972. It was not included on the album, but was released as the B-side to the hit single "Daniel" in 1973.

This song reminds me of my grandmother. She passed away 14 years ago today. I'll never forget her. 😥

So simple and beautiful. Never mind all the big Elton hits. This has to be the best. Beautiful lyrics and melody, reminds me of growing up and realising that life can hurt but that music can heal.

Very famous in the Philippines, radio stations would blare out this song even to this day! In fact, this song introduced me to Elton back in the day! Saw Elton in concert 4 times here in the States throughout the years. The man is magical with his melodies, and Taupin is a fantastic lyricist! Thank you!!! :)

A great example of how his playing allows for placement of the vocal. Elton rarely ever sets a melody that conflicts or interferes with where the vocal is going to reside, much less steps on it.

Not bad for B side. That's how good they were thst a song off that quality was the flip to Daniel.

I like original one in "Empty Sky" better. Because he plays the harpsichord.
