LG G8x ThinQ Dual Screen | Hands-on Review

Hands-on review with the LG G8x ThinQ Dual Screen, an update on the existing G8 with a bundled Dual Screen cover. Here we take a stroll through the specs, test out the camera and play around with the secondary display to see what you can actually do with it.

As folding phones like the Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X aren't going to emerge any time soon, the LG G8x ThinQ may be the closest we get to a foldable handset in 2019. That cover sports a third 2.1-inch OLED screen on front, to compliment the two 6.4-inch OLEDs inside, plus a 360 degree ‘freestop’ hinge.

This mighty mobile is IP68 water and dust resistant and MIL-STD 810G certified, with a glass finish and dual camera setup around back. This includes a 12MP primary lens with OIS and 13MP wide angle shooter, with AI smarts, 4K timelapse and ASMR audio recording.

Performance comes courtesy of a Snapdragon 855 chipset backed by 8GB RAM - not the Snapdragon 855+ sadly, but hey ho. And there's a 4000mAh battery with Fast Charge 4.0 and wireless charging support as well.

At the moment, this is a super practical semi-dual screen phone with the right price tag. For me, the real dual screens can wait till they become super durable and super affordable. Till then, I am happy using a set-up like this. I am currently using this phone and I have no complaints.

Wow... I want this phone! ❤❤❤ I've been an LG fan from way back past the basic LG Lyric. I wonder about the camera features of this phone. I loved the LG G4's ability to do a little light painting by keeping the shutter open 15-30 seconds and I believe it would shoot in RAW format. Does this one do that?

I've been using ZTE Axon M fold (new, unlocked GSM, $130 Amazon, snapdragon 821, Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, dual Amoled screens, 20 mp camera. I think LGs solution is better with screens folding in for protection, L shape for typing on one with second display like mini laptop, and external notification screen. This form factor is smaller and robust compared to Galaxy fold. You have the flexibility of single phone or use both screens for browsing. For video watching on combined screens, the hinge gets in the way ( like Axon M fold), but most videos also are not formated for Galaxy fold. A cheap tablet 7-8 inches is better for video consumption, IMHO. Like your snarky reviews and just subscribed. Peace
