What is SNK, and Who's Terry Bogard?

On September 4th, the Nintendo Direct announced the fifth downloadable character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Fatal Fury’s Terry Bogard. This announcement saw a few different types of reaction, ranging from “finally it’s about time!” to “nobody even knows who this is, why did you waste a slot on him?” It’s easy to understand that Terry is not exactly a household name in this corner of the world. But it should be noted that Terry Bogard was an important character in the early days of fighting games, and his creators have been key contributors to the video game industry from the very beginning.

One of the biggest reason's I think Terry belongs in Smash is because Fatal Fury/King of Fighters is actually the biggest influence to Smash's gameplay. Spot dodge? KOF did it first. Dodge Roll? KoF did it first Short jump? KoF did it first? Big jump, Team battle ... Fatal Fury and King of Fighters deserves credit for positively influencing fighters today.

I’ve been an SNK fan since the first time I played Fatal Fury in a bowling alley! I remember going home and drawing Terry, Andy, and Joe from memory and I couldn’t wait to go back and play again. SNK has brought some of the best fighting games to market and I’m glad you made this awesome video! Thanks so much!

Fatal Fury is more of a successor to Street Fighter than SF2 was since the original creator left Capcom for SNK.

Solution: Play as him in Smash and destroy everyone with him.

Without Terry being announced for smash I never would have rediscovered KoF, and had the greatest nostalgia trip down memory lane in my life. Let me share my story

I was about 7 year's old and I wanted to play video games cause all the other kids had them but growing up I never could have them so one day we went to a restaurant in Italy and I saw arcade cabinets in the back and was curious cause I had never seen them before. I went over to see what they where and saw a 2D plane with guy's throwing fire balls and punching and kicking eachother and I had to try this out. I took some quarter's out and put them in and picked the guy I saw shooting fire Iori and the guy kicking into the air Terry and a third character amd started playing it was fun for a bit but I promptly got my ass whooped. The moral of the story is after Terry got revealed I was interested to see where he was from only to come to find he was my very first video game and oldest childhood memory of mine, and to that I'm forever grateful to Sakurai for.

Terry was in 3 movies and in of them he KILLED A GOD. Its fair to say he earned his way into smash.

King of Fighters is popular in Latin America such as Mexico and Argentina etc. Also popular in Japan, King of Fighters and Fatal Fury is very popular and this character Terry is the mascot and a legend! King of fighters was the game that made Sakurai want to make Smash in the first place too, he beat someone so badly that he wanted to make a game of his own where skilled players and unskilled players can still have fun and play against each other without having to end the game

Short answer: Terry’s the biggest badass fighting game character next to Sol Badguy. Long answer: SNK is pretty much the reason why the crossover fighter *_exists, _* starting it all with King of Fighters. Capcom more or less just followed the leader on that one.

So close! Geese survived that fall in Fatal Fury 1. Terry doesn't adopt Rock until Geese falls and dies for real in Real Bout Fatal Fury. FF2 is about Krauser, Geese's half-brother. And FF3 is about spooky martial arts twins and Yamazaki + Geese working from the shadows to find ultra powerful mcguffin scrolls. Real Bout is the game afterwards. After that, RBFFS and RBFF2 are non-canon. Great video!
