I saw angels and demons as well as his davinci code each for 50p in fine condition awhile back and bought them.
I read allot of reviews ( people love him and hate him ) on both books and allot seemed to think Angels n Demons was a better book so I read that first.
It was good. Didn't blow me away but it was a page turner.
The davinci code I'll get round to later this year as I have so many books to read.

Spoilers ahead concerning Fear Nothing.
Wow...where do I start with this book...
Having read Intensity last week ( a superb Koontz novel from start to finish ) after 20odd years of not reading anything by him I happened across your wonderfully presented reviews including Fear nothing.
As always if I'm spending my money I look upon many reviews before making a choice.
Out of the many reviews of Koontz best 10-20 books I came across next to nobody mentioned fear nothing, ( for good reason ) apart from you.
So..after reading Intensity ( published in 95 two years before fear nothing ) I figured you had found a gem in Fear Nothing and then I saw it for £3.50 hardback in a 2nd hand bookshop so I bought it.
And what a waste of my time n money it turned out to be! Lol :)
Starts off OK. Interesting idea with his condition XP ( Which could have gone so much further, but didn't ) then dovetails when Koontz adapts the writing style of Lovecraft/Poe for many descriptive pages after he mentions Lovecraft on page 44...he did this in Intensity mentioning Silence of the Lambs and Intensity really is an ode to Thomas Harris.
Here though in fear nothing it just irritated me as I'm not a fan of Lovecraft/Poe's writing style...ideas yes prose no.
Thankfully he didn't continue for the rest of the book like that but reverted back to his 1st person accounting.
I'm not a huge fan of 1st person perspectives I much prefer 3rd person. If I were you I'd start mentioning that in your reviews. More info is never bad.
Some authors n books I can handle in 1st person because the story and characters are so well written unlike this novel which was all over the place.
Some of the main characters were terribly written caricatures bordering on childish scribbles.
Take his beach buddy surfer Bobby...the nonsense he came out with was embarrassing to read.
Trying to be cool while shooting monkeys! Lol really terrible character.
The main character escapes the burning house after finding Angela dead then soon enough he's at Bobby's chatting about waves...
The big black guy Roosevelt Frost who just so happens to talk to animals!?! Lol
The fight scene at the end against the monkeys was absolutely dire.
Such a shame as in parts Koontz writing shines through but this felt childish and all over the place compared to Intensity.
That said..you enjoyed it and others might too. :)
Easily the worst Koontz novel I've ever read 2/10.

Angels and Demons plus the davinci code ( my next to read ) will surely wash the stench Koontz's effort has left on me.
:)

Great review; but there's a bit more to it than initially meets the eye; the ideas and theories discussed in the book are not standalone, but are preexisting and came to prominence in the early 2000s when the book was published; as it came together with numerous other mentions in different media, especially cinema. I have a video where I analyse three such films and their connections to each other and to this book, as well as the history of the ideas behind it. It's on my channel and it's called The Mary Magdalene Archetype; if you care to watch.

wow, this vid came to my recommendation I don't know why, anyways I don't read AT ALL, but way back in 2004 my ex gf had got this book, and i was like a book without pictures ;) nah..

just kiddin, I started reading and after a few pages i was gripped, told my gf to leave and started the book at around 6 pm in the evening, I was just not able to stop reading it, and presto it was around 8 am the next morning, and I was almost done 70% of the book, called up my boss, told him I'm sick, and then slept till about 2 pm, got up, got fresh and finished the book by 7sh, same stuff happened with Angels and Demons, in some years. Those were the last books i have read, and its been 16 years now. Damn, it was fun, (with the ex ;), sorry the book :)

Great review.
I look forward to reading my 50p superb condition charity shop paperback copy :)
Saw it when it came out but was put off by the religious aspect to it but now I'm older and wiser..lol...better to dive in after I've read the ten books inline to read before it.
Or maybe it will jump the queue!
Once read I'll be back to discuss.
Peace
