We talked to the Young Royals Intimacy Coordinator Sara Arrhusius about how they created the right environment for some of our favorite scenes from Young Royals and how they have developed from season 1 to season 2 💜

The intimate scenes in Young Royals are simply the best intimate scenes I've ever seen in any show. They don't feel like choreographed scenes at all, they feel like REALITY. This show has raised the bar so high for me... I'm afraid nothing will come close in the near future. ;) Tack så jätte mycket Sara, you're a legend!

i think what makes the intimacy scenes in young royals so so special, is how beautifully they portray actual real queer neurodiverse intimacy in such a tender, respectful manner. this is kind of strange to say but i had never seen a show portray the way we actually have sex/any type of closeness so faithfully. it’s a very weird thing to explain, but it’s so validating 💕

Sara play such an important part in the success of young royals and why this show is so different from other teen drama. Its the subtle eye contact, the heavy breathing, the way wilmon interact together literally EVERY time they are in the same scene that make us so obsessed with that couple.

Like I really cant name much couples with such chemistry. Even with shows with many more episodes and seasons. And in season 2, wilmon didnt even have much scenes together yet we could still feel the love and the bond they have. Its so impressive. Since young royals, its been hard for me to watch other shows about romance because I just cannot feel the love between the characters because Wilmon became my standard.

Also this interview coming right after Omar interview saying how he feels safe with edvin which helps him be more comfortable doing intimate scenes. Like honestly both Omar and edvin are truly AMAZING actors and BIG props to the intimacy coordinator and the writers, directors because Wilhelm and Simon bond is just SO REAL. When you watch Young Royals theres not a second you can feel like its fake or its too much or its just drama. And that is absolutely beautiful especially when we know now that behind the scenes, they are actually such good friends having to play the most deeply in love characters and that must be SO HARD!!! Like i cannot imagine kissing my bestie or looking at my bestie the way wilmon look at each other and interact with each other.

Im really hoping for a renewal of Young Royals for many more seasons so we can see more of this beautiful connection and acting <3

These eye contact moments made me smiling all the time. I always came back and rewatched it because it was so sincerely and you really could see that actors were involved in play and each others. So thanks Sara for their work! I think they're a significant part of chemistry between Edvin and Omar.

Okay, I officially LOVE netty now. I am so so so happy that they are giving a platform to such talented people like Sara who have so much insight into the nitty gritty of how intimacy is portrayed on screen. Intimacy is probably one of the most crucial parts of a teen romance to make it feel vulnerable and authentic. It can play a great role in making people comfortable in their own skin and own their sexuality and not be ashamed of sex as a topic in general. The scenes in YR have so much love and clearly, Sara and the cast have put so much thought into each scene. They were so successful at making us feel loved and seen through these small moments on a screen. I find it very interesting to know these behind-the-scenes tidbits about how things are filmed. I hope discussions about intimacy coordinators reach even wider because the world needs this soft, tender, and respectful view of sex and intimacy in general (plus the importance of maintaining boundaries on set and consent in general).
