This video illustrates the internal workings of downhole rod pump when it is in a fluid pound scenario. As you can see pump card on right illustrates traveling assembly hitting fluid in barrel chamber. This phenomenon happens when pump cannot fill completely with fluid therefore on downstroke plunger then hits fluid at high speeds. This problem could be the result of several different issues including both well and pump deficiencies. Effects of fluid pound can result in loss of production caused by barrel breaks, parted rods and tubing failures etc.
