The removable one was made to light the stove, before pilot lights. There used to be a ½ inch hole in the bottom, center of the oven that you placed a flame next to to ignite the oven.

The detachable part of the "Perplex" is for passing it around, for example to everyone at a table.

The lighter that detaches is most likely so that it can fit into places the larger body cannot, like a candle that is in a jar or glass enclosure. I noticed that the wind guard around the top only covers 3 sides and while this may just be necessary to expose the wick to the spark, I could see this being handy when needing to use the flame while it’s tilted almost upside down - as you would do when lighting a candle like I had mentioned before…or even tilted a bit when you light a pipe perhaps 🤔 This would keep the flame from burning the casing and perhaps leaving those dirty soot marks on your elegant lighter. 🤷‍♂️ Just my thoughts
