Trying Out Google Stadia 2 Years Later...

It's been a while since I checked in on Google Stadia and while their first party studios were shutdown, the platform has continued on. Today I'll be taking a quick look at the store and trying out a few games.

I usually test the input lag of my setups to play Stadia using a little game called Floor Kids. There's a part there where you can easily visualize the button response.

I signed up as a founder member and paid my Pro subscription until recently. I really tried hard to give it a chance. I was barely using it though as pretty much every time I played I got irritating but frame rate issues or controller latency. I bought myself a PS5 just before Christmas and there’s no turning back. Pro subscription cancelled. I’ll keep the controller and may take it away on business trips. Otherwise I’m afraid it’s going lie dormant from now on.

Stadia has been nice for me in it allows me to try out/play certain games that I know will never come to the Switch. As a Switch only gamer who doesn't have the time, money or desire to buy multiple game consoles, Stadia is a great platform to fill in some of those games at a reasonable price.

The thing I think about the most, and why I'll never use Stadia... is it's Google at the end of the day. How long until this is just abandoned, like so many of the other products. I just simply do not trust Google with a full price purchase. If I got a game for like $5 maybe. Or something like Game Pass but for Google. But I fully expect any day for any Google project to be abandoned.

Stadia is what got me back into gaming. I now have a PS5, XSS, Switch, & PC all because Stadia let me play Destiny 2 for free lol

I only tried it back when they ran the initial beta tests, and it really is impressive, but I'll always prefer playing games stored locally.

Stadia definitely works better for me. I tried it every few months from release until December 2020. It was completely unplayable up into November 2020. It would be fine for 10 minutes and then I'd completely lag out. No changes were made on my end but it works great now

I played the entirety of RE Village (only cause it came free with a preorder). I was surprised how good it handled.

When I first heard about Stadia I was dead against it and it sounded terrible, about a year into its life I gave it a try and was pretty shocked how good it actually was for me, played all the way through red dead redemption 2 with no problem at all and didn’t have the money or space for another console/pc at the time, agree with all your opinions in the video, sometimes can be a bit laggy but for convenience it’s really handy and have over 80 games just from the subscription

Side note: if you use an Xbox or PlayStation controller on stadia the buttons in game actually change to match the controller! Pretty cool little feature I think

I use Stadia every day pretty much, I love it for being able to play on my phone with a controller. I have noticed on my PC through the browser I notice more input lag than through the Chromecast or the android app, but that might just be a me thing, cyberpunk was really what got me into Stadia since it was such a good experience

I also got the free premium edition addition deal and I was very surprised at how good stadia handled. I also checked out game pass ultimate playing only in the cloud since my only Xbox is a 360, and the latency was very noticeable compared to stadia.

As much as I wanted to hate stadia, it actually isn't that bad if you don't have a current Playstation or Xbox.

Only thing related to stadia that I enjoy is the free controller and chromecast that they sent me for having YouTube premium. I actually use the controller wired in my PC quite a bit. Running the games locally of course though :)
