Tips on how to write SOP

If you've spent weeks writing your SOP and still get rejections here are some things to keep in mind.

1. Start early-Don’t wait until a few days before the submission date to begin working on your SOP. You need to think carefully about all the aspects like why you want to pursue the course, why you chose the university, your goals, achievements, etc, and then pen them down accordingly.

2. Stories over statements-Your SOP should connect with the admission committee and that is exactly what a story does, instead of simply conveying a message, a story allows the reader to connect with the writer.

3. Numbers-Use stories to describe your actions and insert numbers to highlight the results of your actions as numbers help catch the reader’s attention and keep them interested in your SOP.

4. Customize-Many students look for templates online and draft their SOPs based on a standard format which can sound monotonous & boring. Customize your SOP according to the course and university and prioritize the requirements instead of sending one SOP to every university.

5. Proofread-Proofread the SOP as many times as you can before you submit it. Once you’ve proofread it, also give it to your friends or family to proofread it once again, just to be sure. After all, you don’t want to get rejected over a grammatical error.
