Solution of Hwk
First calculate ksp of zns
ZnS = 97g
Solubility = 0.97 g/L ÷ 97
= 0.01 mol/L
Ksp = s×s = 10 ^ -4

Again: 2 mol Zn(No3)2 in 5L soln
So solubility = 2/5 = 0.4 mol/L
We assume solubity of Zn2+ ion to be 0.4 mol/L


Ksp is constant
So 10^-4 = S × 0.4
solving S = 2.5 × 10^-4
Option d is correct .

sol for the hw question:-
ZNS - Zn+ S-
s(solubility) = 0.97g/l which we will convert to moles per litre
0.97/97= 0.01 or 1*10^-2
ksp for the above dissociation = [s][s] = s^2 = 10^-4
Zn(No3)2 -- Zn+ No3-
here 2 moles of zn(no3)2 is given
to find concentration = 2moles/5litre = 0.4moles/L
ksp = [0.4+s']s'
0.4s'= 10^-4
s'= 10^-4/0.4
s' = 2.5*10^-4

47:00 Ans I got is option d) 2.5 * 10^-4
First find Ksp of Zns aq = S^2
S of ZnS is given in g/L so convert it in mol/L
no. of moles of ZnS = Mass given/ molar mass of of ZnS
= 0.97g / 97g = 10^-2
S = 10^-2 mol/L
Ksp = S^2 = (10^-2)^2 = 10^-4
S 0f Zn(NO3)2 = 2mol/5L = 0.4 mol/L
So after write the equations, Total [Zn2+] = S'+0.4
[SO4 2-] = S'
Ksp = Total [Zn2+] [SO4 2-]
10^-4 = (S'+0.4) (S')
since S' is very very very small in front of 0.4 as evident from options it's Neglected
10^-4 = (0.4) (S')
S' = 10^-4 / 0.4 = 2.5 * 10^-4
