Giuseppe Tornatore makes wonderful films, and they are usually blessed with a sublime score by Ennio Morricone. This one was no exception, with a perfect mix of the playful and beautiful, but never forgetting the tragic heart of the story. This piece of music, which rightly opens the soundtrack album, brings these elements together, as Malèna strides through the village centre, seemingly impervious to the lust, envy and disgust directed towards her.

This is really sad. Those women only accept her back because now they don't see her as a threat anymore since she's less beautiful according to them, has a husband, and dresses more like them. It's not an empowering scene, but a sad one that shows those backward values don't change.

In Italian I would say.... le donne sono sempre gelose di una donna che ha confidenza in se stessa e vuole vestirsi in determinate maniere, anche se diverse dalle altre, perche' si sente sicura di vestirsi come vuole sfoggiando le belle curve da donna che aime' non tutte oggi giorno hanno e mai avute, ma vabbe' ognuna e' come e'. Ma se una e' bella e ha confidenza quello dono del DNA dei genitori o familiari che in precedenza erano di una certa bellezza, con questo voglio intendere dire che una donna deve accettarsi per quello che e' e non rompere e con questo parlare male delle altre che sono di invece bel aspetto. Quelle che sono di bel aspetto hanno tutti i diritti di vivere la loro vita come donne in tutti i sensi e le gelose di queste devono vivere la loro di vita sena rompere a noi belle. punto.
