How to Fix Xiaomi Home App Connection Error

And after all this, I still couldn't even connect my air purifier to my Amazon Alexa, as Xiaomi advertised... oh well, for those wanting to use their app and run into the same issue: hope this helps and hope you enjoy the saved time well. Also apologies for the inferior quality video in some parts and the slow talking, was pretty damn tired from the day and this app's shenanigans.
Should fix Xiaomi Home app errors:
Connection error, check network and retry / Connecting to network timed out

Thank you! You've probably saved my Roborock S6 from being thrown straight into a trash container out of sheer frustration. I've spent hours and hours trying to figure out why it wouldn't connect to my Wi-Fi after the router restart, and I was almost at the point of unleashing all my rage onto this piece of plastic tat. Xiaomi makes some great hardware, but their software is still a buggy, frustrating, poorly engineered mess.

This was the only video that actually helped and solved the problem, contrary to tens of pointless videos all going "hurr-durr, here's 10 minutes of me explaining how to follow instructions already provided in the app".

Short answer:
Change wifi password mode from "WPA2/PSK" to "WPA2"

Works also for other devices like Xiaomi Humidifier.
Mi camera did not face same issue on different wifi password type, but maybe because qr code authentication.

Hi, thank you for sharing this. I’ve tried setting the router but it didn’t work.

If anyone still facing the same issue, maybe you could try these methods:

1. connect using two phones; 1. use this phone to enable hotspot, 2. connect to the hotspot, open the app and start to set up the air purifier.
2. using the wifi extender
It seems my air purifier couldn’t connect directly to my wifi, so i tried to connect using the wifi extender and it worked!!

Ok, you're going to laugh! So, I looked on the modem. It said i was WPA2-TSK. My router, the garbage that it is, furnished by my phone company, is too cheap to have WPA2-Enterprise or other WPA2 options. It has only WPA2-TSK and WPA/WPA2-TSK. The "2" is a major upgrade on WPA. WPA is vunerable in a few ways (don't want to help bad people here). Sooo, I switched it to "both" and it worked! The firmware in the Air Purifiier is so old, it didn't work for me with my version of WPA2. It needed WPA. Also, for who cares, not sure if you said it, Xiaomi is NOT compatible with 5g - or so they say. I tried for an hour with no results. Your solution, for me in my own way, was the only help! and it did!! You get my vote as dude of the day.

I have no idea what is the freaking difference between WPA and WPA2, or how I managed to established the connection before without tweaking with these settings, but it sure worked for me ..

After several days of problems you gave me the hint with the WPA/WPA2 security!! In my router I set the security to WPA2 instead of WPA/WPA2, connected the device and after connecting changed WPA2 to WPA2/WPA3, even more secure. If your planning to visit The Netherlands I'll buy you Beer and Bitterballen!!

Thanks for sharing this. I don't have router control because I'm living in a relative's house. So I turn on my laptop's hotspot and connect the device to my hotspot. It works a charm. and my device is now connected to the app.

Had an issue with a webcam I got from them, account refused to connect to their server, kept hanging at updating data for some reason. Updated router settings to what it says on the video and it now works. Thank you!
